WHAT A MESS

This will take some time and thought, where most of my posts are off the cuff and not well thought out.  I can't say if this will thought out either.

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."  Benjamin Franklin.

"Experience should teach us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when Government's purposes are beneficent.  Men born to freedom are naturally alert to repel invasion of their liberty by evil-minded rulers.  The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding." Justice Louis D. Brandeis.

"Guard with jealous attention the public liberty.  Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel.  Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but, downright force.  Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined." Patrick Henry.

"The man who asks of freedom anything other than itself is born a slave."  Alexis de Tocqueville.

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom.  It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."  William Pitt.

MY FAVORITE:  "The philosophy of gun control: Teenagers are roaring through town at 90 MPH, where the speed limit is 25.  Your solution is to lower the speed limit to 20." Sam Cohen.

Each of the situations of concern in America today is what are we willing to sacrifice to feel safe.  Liberty seems to be the most hard fought for standard of America but seems to be that God given right that today's Americans are most willing to give up to "Big Brother".

Again we have the issue of the Second Amendment,  the right to bear arms.  If that is taken away then we have lost the public force by which to reclaim our liberty from the hand of tyranny.
