WORLDS FOOD SUPPLY (again)

The following is from the op pages of the New York Times.

It is titled "When the Nile Runs Dry" by Lester R. Brown.

Mr. Brown states that dollar rich countries with little food production capabilities are in a panic. World wide grain and food production dwindles each year. Saudi Arabia, South Korea, China and India are purchasing huge tracts of arable land in Africa to produce wheat, rice and corn to be sent back to their countries.

Sudan has leased land twice the size of Rhode Island to Korea to grow wheat. Ethiopia has leased vast acreages to Saudi Arabia to grow rice and is negotiating for more, also hundreds of thousands of acres have been leased to India to grow corn, rice and other crops. China is leasing land in the Congo and Zambia to grow crops for bio-fuels,

According to Mr. Brown these land grabs will shrink Africa's food supply by sending their food to those countries which have bought their land.

Egypt that hot bed of democracy may be the most affected as they consume 18 million tons of wheat annually and import more that half that amount. The government also gives free bread subsidies to 60% of the people at the cost of 2 billion dollars a year. It is an entitlement paid for by the US aid.

The situation arises here that Ethiopia and Sudan have three fourths of the land bordering the Nile River and will being much more water thus limiting the water for Egypt to grow their already meager crops.

I HAVE JUST COME UPON A GREAT SOURCE FOR INFORMATION CONCERNING THE UPCOMING FOOD SHORTAGES: offthegridnrews.com LOOK AT IT AND PREPARE
