The Ukraine is a very unique country. Unfortunately they are very poor in natural resources such as oil, natural gas, coal and valuable minerals. They have no real producing hydro-electric sources.
They do have millions of acres of very rich top soil and thus are very attuned to an agrarian society. Their farms are small and still mostly driven and powered by hay which they feed to their horses who most of the heavy work on the farms. They still cut the hay with hand scythes, windrow the hay with homemade rakes and by hand. load the hay into horse drawn wagons to be stored in the barn.
Now, the Ukraine is in no way a third world country. They have a great history of culture, theater, music and dance. They have great cities and in most ways meet European standards. Their problem is that they must rely on outside sources for energy.
Into today's world, liberty, freedom, safety, the pursuit of happiness and yes totalitarianism, socialism and oppression are controlled by those who can and will control energy.
The Ukraine has about 67% of the population who speak Ukrainian and identify with the Ukraine homeland while the other 33% speak and identify with their former slave owners Russia. Perhaps 20% of the population are ethnic Russians.
The Ukraine was invaded by Russia in the early 1930's and Stalin/Putin, starved 7 1/2 million native Ukrainians and sent millions more to gulags in Siberia.
Then along come the Nazis and their Muslim SS forces who kick the Russians collective hind ends and invade the Ukraine. Here a literal rape of the land occurred. Millions of train car loads of the rich topsoil was sent back to the Fatherland.
Then we can not forget Babi Yar, where 150,000 ethnic Ukrainians, soviet prisoners of war, Gypsies (Romani) and Jews some 38,000 (men woman and children) were stripped, shot then dumped into a ravine. Also the Odessa and surrounding area slaughter of approximately 100,000 Ukrainian Jews and others.
Then the Nazis get whipped and the Russians and Stalin again control the Ukraine and oppress them even further.
The Ukrainians are just like the everyday Americans, good hard working people controlled by oppressive and corrupt politicians.
