Drought, American Food Crises

The past two years North America ( U.S. and Canada) experienced extreme even near crises like drought throughout the middle portions of the continent.  Often referred to as the "Bread Basket of the World, for the volume of wheat, corn, soy and other staple food products.

Currently it is predicted that the Western portion of these countries will experience the worst drought in 500 years.

Washington, Oregon and California along with British Columbia can be called the "Fruit and Vegetable Basket" of North America.

With snow pack in the mountains around 10% of normal the coastal and central valleys of these states and the Canadian Province are going to see farmers water cut off and many will not even plant this year or will cut down orchards and groves.

Hay and grains for cattle, hogs and chickens will become scarce and thus meat and eggs will be in short supply and more expensive.

Everything from almonds, apples, avocados, cherries, peaches cantaloupe, lettuce, strawberries, broccoli, tomatoes, carrots, beets, oranges, and another whole host of beans and legumes will become in short supply and expensive.

Water in the Colorado Basin Drainage is at an extreme low, thus water from Wyoming to Mexico will effect the people of Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and California (which will, in essence have a drought in both Northern and Southern California.

Are you planting a home garden and do you have a fair storage of basics to sustain life?
