While I do agree that water has been sparse in the west where I was born, raised and have lived all of my life (Idaho, Utah, California and now Arizona) Back in the day when they were looking how to name states Arizona was perfect referring to the arid or dry area of the zone. Now some may disagree as they wish to put a golden sheen on the brass of California. It is obvious that this is a combination of Spanish words meaning hot stove.
Again a history lesson for many, when Father Escalante in 16th century was in what is now the Arizona Strip, it is recorded that the only thing the explorers could agree upon was that "it was hot, very hot."
Dry cyclical weather combined with extreme mismanagement by the tree hugger liberal cowards and the pressure they put on the politicians and appointees (hacks) to keep the use and productivity of these great natural resources blocked the true use by the people is the crime here.
Logging, clearing of dense underbrush, grazing by cattle and sheep have been greatly reduced over the years. Thus, underbrush, old downfalls and grasses become rampant. Just the perfect storm for major fires.
Also, I can name many wildfires caused by once controlled burns which have not really been controlled by those charged with forest maintenance. In the past eight years I know of several "controlled fires which have burst the boundaries and ravaged some of the greatest land on earth.
